The reason I sound like I hate everything is that I've seen the same pattern play out a hundred times. A new tool comes out and everyone loses their minds. It's gonna change everything. It's gonna make the old way obsolete. And then two years later there's a migration guide to some other thing, and the old thing is still running in some dusty corner of prod because nobody ever actually turned it off.

I don't hate new things. I hate pretending that new things are fundamentally different from old things when they're almost always the same thing with a different coat of paint and a shinier website.

A database is still a database. A queue is still a queue. A leak is still a leak.

The difference between a good system and a bad one has almost nothing to do with the technology and almost everything to do with whether someone, somewhere, actually gives a damn about the details.
